International Women's Day- 2002 Italian Village

Today, I recall my first experience with International Women’s Day (IWD). While in college, I had the privilege of studying abroad in Europe and traveling while there. On IWD, I found myself in a small Italian town, able to communicate only with hand gestures. When I emerged from dinner that evening, the women of the town were out in the street dancing together- I stopped to watch, mesmerized. A group of older women came up, took me by the hand and led me into their celebration. We danced and laughed like old friends. I don’t know their names, we didn’t share a language, but they made me fell like I was one of them. On this IWD, those women #inspireinclusion  for me and remind me that reaching out to anyone on the sidelines can have an immense impact. 🫶 I don’t have any photos of that night, but this is what it felt like.
